We moved to Paisley from London in February last year. I found out about Not Far? Leave the Car quite quickly but I can't quite remember where. I really enjoyed Bike Week and made the effort to ride for 20 minutes every day to be in with a chance to win an electric bike. It helped me get to know my local area and how the streets were connected, even if someone else won the prize.
We're more car dependent in Paisley than we were in inner city London. We have three kids so there's a lot of ferrying people around! We managed to get a small second hand electric car that we try to use whenever possible. I sometimes cycle into town- I do need all my 21 gears for the hills but it's very rewarding. It's mainly caring for the planet that makes us think about how we get around - but the BetterPoints are such a bonus - we all need added motivation!
We love going to Castle Semple Country Park. It's really easy to get there. My husband and daughter have cycled there along the National Cycle Network Route 7 to Lochwinnoch, there are a couple of train stations nearby and there are car charging points, so I can get there in our e-vehicle and be at the loch in no time. Once you're there you can do a lovely walk by the water.
The cafe at the Visitor Centre is great. There are lots of options - even for dogs! - and it's really well thought out and the staff are lovely. I've treated myself and a friend to a coffee there with my BetterPoints a few times. People are surprised to find out I can get them a free coffee just from my walking, biking and using public transport!
